What a gorgeous photograph of this beautiful (and harmless) garter snake.  Bob Gore has outdone himself on this one.  While garter snakes are around all year round in this area they are most active between March-November and now is their mating time so keep your eyes out for them near the trails of Ivy Creek.  I learned two things about garter snakes today.  They are the official Virginia state snake.  And, as Bob has captured so amazingly in this photograph, many have two colors in their tongues.
