Annually, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors recognizes local community members for their service to the County community in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This year, Sue Erhardt and Mariah Payne were selected to receive the proclamation in recognition of MLK Day for all the services they provide through the Ivy Creek Foundation. The ceremony was held on Wednesday, January 15.

From Sue's speech:

"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace, and a soul generated by love.'

"Let us heed Dr. King’s words and remain committed to service. Our communities need us more than ever. As Mrs. Greer would remind her students, 'Be something!' Let us continue to be something, dedicating our time, talents, and hearts to the work that remains.

"On behalf of the Board, staff, and volunteers of Ivy Creek Natural Area and Historic River View Farm, we were deeply honored to accept this proclamation. Together, let us carry forward this family's vision of service, education, and community."
