Dragonfly Hike
Come learn about dragonflies and damselflies! We will meet at the shelter near the education building for introductions and a brief conversation about the natural history and ecology of dragonflies including their fascinating life cycles, role as predators and prey, and preferred habitats. We will then head out for a hike to learn about identifying dragonflies and damselflies in the field. Bring your binoculars! The hike will be led by Jim Childress and Emily Luebke. Mr. Childress has been doing fieldwork in this area for over 15 years, and published an article on the subject in Banisteria, the journal of the Virginia Natural History Society. Ms. Luebke works as a field tech and wildlife photographer for the Center for Urban Habitats and is also a member of the Rivanna Master Naturalists.
