June Native Plant Walk

IVY CREEK/VNPS Third Saturday Plant Walk
June 21, 2025 - 9-11 AM
Led by Dorothy Carney and Daria Kiselica, Rivanna Master Naturalists

JOIN US to see early summer plants in various stages of bloom. These may include black cohosh, water forget me not, American water willow, summer bluets, and honewort. We will also see late spring plants which are finishing blooming and going to seed, including Jack in the pulpit, climbing milk vine, and hooked buttercup. There are ferns and club mosses bearing spores, particularly Christmas fern and running cedar.  A small marsh area with arrow arum, arrowhead, and wild hydrangea should be starting to bloom.

Beginners are welcome. The two hour walk will be leisurely, with a few uneven grades. Dress to discourage mosquitoes and ticks.  Bring water and wear sunscreen. As always at Ivy Creek: No dogs. No foraging or collecting. This is a fair weather walk which will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Meet at the kiosk near the parking lot at 9 AM.
