Barn and Farm History Hours

Come inside the barn at Ivy Creek Natural Area. This was formerly the showpiece of the working farm known as River View Farm. Enjoy the displays including an observing beehive and farm equipment. Open weekend afternoons until Thanksgiving.

Native Trees and Shrubs of Ivy Creek

Learn the native shrubs and trees of Ivy Creek on our walk. We'll be using leaf, bark, branching, seed, flower, and other distinguishing characteristics. Ellen Powell of the Virginia Department of Forestry will lead us. Meet by the kiosk near the parking lot of Ivy Creek Natural Area.

Volunteer Guide Training

Become a volunteer guide! Learn the trails and how to share your knowledge and love of nature with groups. Topics covered include mammals, reptiles, amphibians, trees, plants, birds, and the history of River View Farm. Meet Tuesday mornings until May 9. Free and open to all.

Please fill out our Volunteer Form in advance. We’ll start outside the Education Building.

Little Naturalists Thursday

Introduce your three to five year-old to nature with this short talk and trail walk. Master Naturalist Rachel Bush will host, starting in the Ivy Creek Foundation Education Building. Little Naturalists is now twice a month on the second Monday and last Thursday.
