Family Ericaeae, Chimaphila maculata

The distinctive dark green leaves with white stripes, up to 3″ long each, are easy to spot at ground level in the woods of Ivy Creek in summer and winter.

In summer you can find the waxy whitish flowers, about 2/3″ wide, which hang down from the top of the stalk. The stalk grows about 3 to 9 inches tall.
