Monticello Bird Club - Brazil’s Atlantic Forest

Jim Nix will speak on birding in the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. Whereas the enormous Amazon Basin might be what most think of in connection with that country, the focus tonight will be on the lesser known and drastically altered Atlantic Forest. Less than 10% of its original size, it still is home to a remarkable diversity of species—over 500, with 118 being endemic to that ecosystem. Conservation efforts there are extraordinary–with guides, accommodations, and ongoing scientific research being part of the experience.
