Ivy Creek Natural Area Flowers:

Virginia Bluebells

Family Boraginaceae, Mertensia virginica

These spring flowers can be found in the marshy area on the Red reservoir trail at Ivy Creek (these photos were taken in early April, 1997) and in the rock garden near the Education Building. The buds start out pink and turn blue as the flower grows. Each flower is about one inch long on a plant about 8 to 24 inches tall.
