Ivy Creek Natural Area Flowers: Blackberry Lily

Family Iridaceae, Belamcanda chinensis

This lovely summertime flower can be found in open woods and wood edges at Ivy Creek (these pictures were taken at the woods edge along Blue Trail). The flowers last only about a day.

The common name comes from its seed capsule, which when broken open resembles blackberries. In reality, it is neither a blackberry nor a lily!
